Abstract: The Andes Mountains in Peru is the birthplace of the Amazon River. Due to the large-scale deforestation and severe forest degradation in recent decades, Peru Government desires to improve the local ecology and develop local economy through some advantageous species such as bamboo. This paper studied resources, cultivation, stand management, processing and utilization and marketing status of bamboo in Peru and overviewed its long-term national bamboo development plan. It concluded that there is a great potential for Sino-Peru bamboo cooperation and China could strengthen bamboo cooperation with Peru in the area of joint R & D, germplasm exchanges, bamboo plantation establishment and personnel training, to promote the mutual prosperity of bamboo industry.
